Arboretum Horticulturist Recognized
Randy Cook, State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry Coordinator has announced that David Horst, Bickelhaupt Arboretum horticulturist, has been named the 2009 Outstanding Professional in Iowa. "Horst's efforts in his community at promoting and enhancing the tree resources in Iowa will be recognized at the Iowa Urban and Community Forestry Council annual awards luncheon on April 30, 32009 in Des Moines, IA," announced Cook.
Horst was nominated by Francie Hill, president of the Bickelhaupt Board; Jerry Widel, Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, Margo Hansen and Mike Wolf, Arboretum ROOTS Advisory Board members and Richard Johnson, Arboretum volunteer/Iowa State University Clinton County extension Master Gardener. A resident of Sabula and employee at the Bickelhaupt for 24 years, Horst is a lifetime member of the American Conifer Society, Clinton Area Whitetail Unlimited committee member, volunteer for US Fish and Wildlife, advisor to the City of Clinton Tree Commission and member of Lyons Masonic Lodge #93.
